FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I am always available to answer your questions and help you feel oriented before booking. If something is not covered here, you are welcome to reach out or schedule a free consult

Somatic work is a body-based approach that centers awareness, sensation, breath, and movement. Rather than focusing on changing or fixing the body, somatic practices invite you to notice how your body feels and responds in each present moment.

This may include gentle movement, breath awareness,  rest, and guided noticing. The emphasis is on listening to the body and responding with care and choice. There is no expectation to perform, achieve, or push through discomfort.

Many yoga classes emphasize pushing the body's limit during physical postures and movement, which can make yoga feel like exercise or performance.

Somatic yoga shifts the focus from doing to noticing. Rather than striving for a perfect pose, the practice invites you to move with curiosity and awareness, observing sensation without judgement and allowing the nervous system to  settle through choice, pacing, and presence.

This approach values inner awareness rather than achievement.

Trauma-sensitive, or trauma-informed means that I have received specific training around the effects of trauma on the nervous system. TIYT (trauma-informed yoga therapy) sessions and classes are designed with awareness for how stress and difficult experiences can affect the nervous system, body, and emotional responses.

These sessions are structured around clear invitations, choice, a slower pace, and a respect for boundaries that prioritizes  peace and a sense of safety above all else.

Your first visit is a calm, welcoming introduction to the space and the practices.

You can expect:

  • A brief new client form
  • A conversation about what brought you in and what kind of support you are looking for
  • Together, we will begin to sample a variety of techniques, pausing to check in with how you feel in your body
  • Options throughout, including movement, stillness, and rest

You do not need to prepare anything in advance. You can arrive as you are

Both classes and private sessions prioritize awareness, mind-body connection, and choice.

Classes are small and theme-based, with shared ideas such as kindness, or emotional balance. Group size is limited so the space remains calm and supportive.

Private sessions are curated for your unique circumstances and needs.

No prior experience is necessary. Somatic yoga meets you where you are. You do not need to know poses, be flexible, or have a  fitness background to participate.

Somatic work is not about flexibility, strength, or how the body looks. It  is about  noticing sensation and moving in ways that feel authentic and supportive in your body.

Yoga offers many options and modifications. Curiosity and presence matter far more than strength or flexibility.

Yes. Poses and movement are adaptable, and sessions can include seated or prop-supported practices as needed. You are encourged to move in ways that feel appropriate for you body.

If you have specific accessibility questions, you are welcome to reach out before booking a session.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement and rest. Soft, stretchy clothes work well. Shoes are typically removed during sessions. We would not suggest wearing jeans or stiff fabrics that could be uncomfortable during movement and rest.

If you have questions about clothing or comfort, you are welcome to ask ahead of time.

Somatic work is designed o be gentle and paced. the focus is on building a sense of safety, choice, and steady awarenss, rather than pushing  into intensity.

Everyone is different. If you have concerns about how this might feel for you, a free consultation is a good place to talk it through and decide what level of support feels appropriate.

Group classes are a great option of you would like to share the experience with someone.

Private sessions are most effective one-on-one, as adding another person can change the dynamic of the session.

Online classes are ot currently offered. Online private sessions are available after an initial in-person new client session.

A 2 day cancellation policy applies out of respect for everyone's time.
